Air Fuel Synthesis pitches to Future Transport conference
Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:55
Air Fuel Synthesis (AFS) is participating in the Cleantech Investor Future Transport Conference 2012.
AFS will be making a presentation to transport industry leaders and investors in London's City Hall on 16 August 2012 AFS Chief Executive Peter Harrison will be presenting the company’s innovative solution to produce synthetic fuels from renewable electricity.
The company initially proved its fuel reactor technology in April 2012 by producing methanol fuels from carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and also from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Peter will show how the company is progressing towards it's first commercial fuel production unit and is expected to make an important announcement about the company’s development programme.
Although in the near term AFS expects carbon from a point source to be a more economic proposition for its compact, containerised fuel production units, the company has also demonstrated its ability to capture CO2 from the atmosphere for use in totally carbon-neutral fuels. These achievements confirm Air Fuel Synthesis as global pioneers in synthetic fuel development which have been acknowledged by recent visitors to the plant in Teeside which have included Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Jonathon Porritt, Founder and Director of Forum for The Future and renowned environment journalist.
Mr Porritt saw for himself the Demonstrator designed by engineering scientists at AFS. The Demonstrator uses sustainable electricity to capture carbon from the air and oxygen from water to manufacture fuel. After visiting AFS, he said: “What you are pioneering through AFS is hugely significant, both in the short term, responding to the needs of certain niche markets, and in the long term. “Harnessing the benign properties of CO2 to create genuinely sustainable fuels for the future is still, for many, no more than a distant dream. I really think AFS and colleagues are turning that dream into a reality.”
The AFS team hope that delegates to Cleantech Investor Future Transport Conference recognise the achievements to date and support their pitch for investment.
The conference will be chaired by journalist and TV presenter, Quentin Willson and the event is supported by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson - speakers include:
- Kit Malthouse, Deputy Major of London
- Dr Graham Cooley, CEO, ITM Power
- Dr Sae Hoon Kim Principal Engineer, Hyundai Motor Company & Kia Motors Corporation
- Patrick Head, Co-founder, Williams Formula 1
- Dr Dominic Emery, Chief Development Officer, BP Alternative Energy
- Javier de Rocafort, Chairman, Quimera Project
- Andreas Schamel MD, Ford European Research Center
- Norman Baker MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport
- Dr Peter Bonfield, Chief Executive, BRE
The conference will set the scene for the transport fuels of the future with a number of sessions throughout the day, including: The Future Fuels, Future Engineering, City Transport and Infrastructure, Future Markets and Innovation in Motor Sport.
